Ms. Asma Jahangir, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran
We are writing to inform you more on linguistic and cultural assimilation policies, anti-human and racist process, of Iranian government.
In recent days, Iranian officials of Ministry of Education have issued a set of recruitment guidelines and rules for teachers which is the obvious manifestations of racism in Iran. The set of guidelines excluded individuals with accented Persian along with a wide range of illnesses including refractory illnesses, lung and kidney diseases etc.
We would like to remind you that the vast majority of Iran’s population are non-Persian nations. Thus, the immense majority of them, especially 35 million Azerbaijani Turks, will be subjected to the racist rules. Furthermore, the new set of guidelines may be regarded as a coup against provisions of UNESCO 2030 document. If the guidelines are executed majority of the serving teachers will be encountered with humiliation. Additionally, they will suffer from behavioral and social disorders since most of them speak accented Persian and belong to non-Persian language and culture. Undoubtedly, Iran is a multi-ethnic and evidently multi-lingual country, thus speaking accented Persian is normal. Southern Azerbaijan National Awakening Movement (SANAM) is a peaceful and human rights organization that has taken steps to defend Turks rights in Iran and to notify International and Human Rights Committees of injustices and discrimination of Tehran regime against South Azerbaijani Turks.
SANAM organization strives to resolve national and regional problems of Azerbaijani Turks and to develop democracy for all nations. Hence we condemn Iran’s racist policies against Azerbaijani Turks and request Ms. Asma Jahangir, whose essence of her activities is defending the rights of nations, to take measures help Turks and other ethnics who are living in the shadow of racism and oppression.
